Steve and Rick Twenty years after they rocked the Sports Bar, the Thunderbox and even the Great Hall, Shy Talk reunited at Glynn Evans's home town of Ugborough. Steve Gilbert (left) now plays bass in one of Newcastle's top bands, and is a primary school teacher in County Durham. He's also a professional photographer and took most of these pictures.
Rick Creed (right), who was the band's only civilian back in the 80s, still lives in Ivybridge and is well known in the local folk circuit.

Glynn and Ian Glynn Evans, lead singer, has been working for Flagship at Dartmouth for the last few years but is now back in the Service at Shrivenham as a full-time reservist. He plays regularly with Rick and lives in Ugborough with wife Wendy (whom many Manadonites will remember as the reason why they frequented the library!) and their teenaged son and daughter. Glynn's tutorials for the hard of hearing were the saviour of many an academic straggler! He's pictured here with Ian MacGillivray, who plays drums but has immense musical talents as well. Ian is now a Cdr, and likely to be the last serving member of the band.

Andy That's me. I was the apprentice, roadie and producer back then. But on this occasion it was my privilege to stand in for Ian Thompson, who was unwell at home near Manchester. Ian left the Service in the early 90s; he used to play penny whistle, flute, harmonica, and took over the bass in the rock n roll half of the set (when Steve was on lead guitar). I'm a Cdr these days but leaving the Service very shortly to emigrate to Canada and join the clean energy business (and build a solar-powered recording studio in my basement).

Steve and Glynn We all had a smashing weekend. Wendy fed us all at their house on the Saturday night then we set up for a whole day's musical nostalgia in Ugborough Village Hall on the Sunday. It wasn't the Cherry Tree, the Breakwater or the Who'd Have Thought It, but there was no crowd trouble either! (probably because there was no crowd).

Rick and Ian All the old favourites came flooding back. The Shy Talk signature tune - seldom played to a sober audience, so forgive yourself if you don't remember it - was Quasi Be Good and you can listen to the recording we made here.

Andy and Glynn At the end of the day, it's not what you did, it's the friends you did it with.
